Seagate Voted 2001 Channel Champion for Desktop Disc Drives in India

Seagate Technology announced today that it has been named the 2001 Channel Champion for Desktop Disc Drives in a survey conducted by ITNation Business Review magazine. The survey identifies the most trusted vendors of IT products chosen by resellers and integrators from different metros and cities in India. Seagate achieved the highest rating of any disc drive company in all categories, from product quality and reliability to product availability, beating the first runner-up by a wide margin.

Survey respondents were divided into two groups based on the type of business: System Builders—this group primarily comprised companies that assemble white boxes, while also distributing computer products; and System and Network Integrators—this group primarily comprised companies focused on selling and installing connectivity solutions. Based on the votes of survey respondents, Seagate ranked first in Product Quality and Reliability; Product Compatibility and Scalability; Marketing Support; Profitability; Price/Performance; and Product Availability.

According to the ITNation Business Review survey, "The results for desktop disc drives are not a big surprise; Seagate leads all the rest while scoring the highest points in all the categories from product quality and reliability to product availability. The rest of the nominees could not match up with Seagate."

"Seagate has consistently delivered innovative products, good service and support to our distributors, resellers and customers, and they have reciprocated by choosing Seagate as their disc drive supplier of choice," said Joel Stead, Seagate senior vice president of Worldwide Sales and Marketing. "Moving forward, Seagate's commitment is to continuing providing best-in-class storage solutions for the IT market here."

Three years ago, Seagate launched the Storage Partner Program in India, a strategic move to further strengthen its presence here. Under the Storage Partner Program, Seagate supplements the market penetration efforts of its distributors and import partners by providing added support within the smaller reseller channels. The Storage Partner Program has seen positive results—enhancing the relationship of Seagate with its channel customers by enabling them to participate in various marketing programs the Company runs from time to time.

Today, Seagate is the clear market share leader in India. Recently, Seagate was named the #1 hard disc drive supplier here by the International Data Corp. (IDC) market research firm. Additionally, Seagate hard drives have garnered rave reviews from leading publications in India and around the world. In India, recent product recognition includes being named Editor's Choice for its U Series disc drive from PC World India, Editor's Choice for the Barracuda ATA family of disc drives from CHIP India, and three consecutive years being named PCQuest India Users' Choice for disc drives: 1999, 2000 and 2001.

During January this year, Seagate established a Liaison office in New Delhi to launch new products and provide support services to the fast-growing storage market in India. The new facility's location will enable Seagate to develop closer ties to the market, as well as strengthen customer service capabilities. Seagate will continue to be supported by its local distributors to deliver the latest products to the growing India IT market.
