Seagate and BOI to Provide Opportunity for Technology Manufacturers Through the "Vendors Meet Customers Program" (VMC)

Seagate Technology (Thailand) Ltd today announced its cooperation with the Office of the Board of Investment (BoI) on the BoI's unique "Vendors Meet Customers Program" for the Northeastern region. The BoI Unit for Industrial Linkage Development (BUILD) has invited hard disc drive parts and electronics manufacturers to network at an event to be held at Seagate's Korat facility, with the goal of facilitating increased business opportunities in the region.

As part of the company's ongoing presence and commitment in Thailand, Seagate has encouraged the BoI's efforts to promote incentives and facilitate increased investment and growth in the technology base here. Dr. Wisan Tantawichian, head of BUILD said, "The Vendors Meet Customers Program aims to provide opportunities for technology component manufacturers to access new markets and penetrate existing ones. The program also creates greater usage of locally-produced parts and components which results in more investment in the Thai economy."

The BoI's report in March noted that Thailand is the world's second largest hard disc drive production base, totaling 17.8 percent of total world market. The disc drive industry employs more than 100,000 people here; with a total export value of approximately 202,000 million baht.

Seagate is the worldwide leader in the design, manufacturing and marketing of hard disc drives, providing products for a wide range of Enterprise, PC, Notebook and Consumer Electronics applications. The company is committed to delivering award-winning products, customer support and reliability, to meet the world's growing demand for information storage.
