Seagate to Give Keynote Address as Founding Partner of SAN World Asia 2001

SINGAPORE - Seagate Technology, the world's leading provider of storage solutions for Internet, business and consumer applications, will be the founding partner at Storage Area Networks (SAN) World Asia 2001 in Singapore. To be held at the Oriental Hotel from 21 - 22 November, Dave Anderson, Seagate director of Storage Systems Architecture, will be delivering a keynote address examining the storage market, including the trends, challenges and opportunities ahead. He will also be joining a panel of storage experts and users to discuss best practices for storage management in a networked world.

SAN World Asia 2001 is Asia's only independent educational platform designed to provide end-users and vendors to effectively understand the impending challenges of deploying new storage technologies in a rapidly evolving IT environment. It provides a dynamic and interactive platform that features hot topics and the latest developments in SAN. The conference encompasses the newest network storage solutions for faster, more reliable access to business-critical data, and offers excellent networking opportunities for business associates and channel partners.

"With SAN standards still in the evolution phase, it is crucial for us to provide strategic input and share our experience to further the establishment of these standards," said Joel Stead, Seagate senior vice president of Worldwide Sales and Marketing. "As a founding partner of SAN World Asia 2001, we are pleased to bring together the SAN experts in an interactive forum."

SAN technology now plays an increasingly critical role in how digital information is stored and managed in Enterprise environments. It offers the scalability and manageability advantages of today's network architecture while significantly increasing network performance by enabling the migration of intelligence from servers to storage platforms. These intelligent storage platforms can connect directly to the network and to each other, liberating server bandwidth, significantly increasing network performance and reliability, and substantially reducing network management costs.

International Data Corporation (IDC) research indicates that an increasing number of organizations now spend a larger proportion of their IT budgets on storage than on servers, with SAN being a key driver for this trend. The emergence of SAN enables users to expand their storage infrastructure beyond the limitations imposed by a server-attached storage infrastructure, and the associated management capabilities of a SAN provide exhaustive benefits to an organization.

Seagate and its XIOtech subsidiary, a SAN solutions provider, are members of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) - the point of cohesion for developers of storage and networking products in addition to system integrators, application vendors and service providers as the world computer systems market embarks on the evolutionary journey called storage networking. SNIA is dedicated to ensuring that storage networks become complete and trusted solutions across the IT community.
