"TechnoQuest is a national level computer quiz with an objective of encouraging interest in computer related technology among the academic community," said Chakrarajan Srihari, chairman of TechnoQuest 2001 Organizing Committee. "Over the years, TechnoQuest has brought together IT talent from Singapore's universities, polytechnics, junior colleges and secondary schools to compete in a dynamic, hands-on environment. We are pleased with Seagate's support in helping us continue developing the next generation of scientists and engineers."
"By investing in science and technology education, we are investing in our future," said Jim Chirico, Seagate senior vice president and general manager, Asia Pacific Manufacturing Operations. "Seagate is the leader in hard disc drives possibly the most challenging arena in the computing industry. It is therefore in our interest to take an active role in nurturing interest in science and technology to support our ongoing efforts."
The trip will allow the students to observe researchers at work and personally experience how technology is leveraged to create the storage devices that are changing the way we use information in all aspects of our lives. They also get to role-play as "junior engineers" for a day, assisting in fieldwork and interacting with staff members at the facility.
"This will be a journey of experiential learning for the students," added Chirico. "The hands-on exposure is a rare opportunity for a student to see how Seagate uses creativity and innovation to stay ahead of the competition. They will also be tapping the experience and knowledge of IT professionals working on some of the most advanced computing technology in the world."
Seagate has taken a long-term perspective to its social responsibility in Singapore.
