Walking Clinic Organized For More Than 1,000 Seagate Employees And Family Members Participating In Starwalk

PENANG, Malaysia - Penang Seagate Industries (M) Sdn Bhd, held a walking clinic to help prepare its employees for Starwalk 2003. For the second consecutive year, Seagate will be sending the largest contingent for Starwalk.

"Over 1000 Seagate employees and family members have signed up for this important and fun filled event," said Kevin Leong, IT Director and Seagate's Sports & Recreation Committee Chairman. "We believe that such sporting events encourage work-life balance and can build highly-motivated teams, so we are helping our employees be fit and prepared for Starwalk 2003."

Seagate invited Lionel Rajamoney, a sports coach with over 23 years experience, to instruct employees on "Preparing for a 10km Walk." He covered topics such as proper sports attire, what to eat before the walk, how to warm up and cool down as well as good walking techniques. Lionel also led a walking clinic immediately after the talk.

"In addition to this walking clinic, our staff doctor briefed employees on the importance of diet, exercise, stress management and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle," added Leong.

Many Seagate employees have been enthusiastically training and getting fit for the walk. For manager Fong Tat Yuan, he starts each morning with some light exercise and jogs a few kilometers in the evening to build up his stamina. As his family will also be participating in Starwalk this year, he plans to climb Bukit Jambul hill with them. Fong and his wife, Tan Kim See will be walking with their sons, one eight-year-old and another 3 months old who will be pushed in a stroller. Accompanying them will be Fong's brother, Fong Tai Mien.

Pramanathan Saminathan, a superintendent has been hiking Jalan Kolam hill in Bukit Mertajam with his Seagate team members as well as his family members as part of their training program. Joining him for Starwalk 2003 will be his two nieces, ages 14 and 16. These two teenagers are looking forward to their first Starwalk and receiving their certificates of completion.

Security guard Khairi Idris has been training by walking through his neighborhood with family members. This will be the first Starwalk for Khairi, his wife and three children, ages two, five and eight.
