Wuxi Deaf-Mute School Gets A Brand New Computer Courtesy Of Seagate

Seagate Technology today donated PCs, networking equipment and other hardware and software to establish a much needed computer lab for the Wuxi Deaf-Mute School in East China's Jiangsu Province. The lab will be used to conduct instructor-based learning as well as curriculum development and research.

The new lab, which was officially opened by Johnny Lau, Seagate vice president of China Operations and Zhang Zhixin, vice director of Wuxi Education Bureau, will provide more than 200 staff and students with technology to help develop essential skills and techniques to help them better integrate into society.

The Wuxi Education Bureau has highlighted the lab as a key special education project for 2002. The school's lab is also connected to Wuxi's citywide educational network and the Internet, providing students and staff to a new era of education.

"Seagate's contribution to special education in Wuxi is really commendable," said Zhang Zhixin. "Besides being a top-notch company and an example of positive foreign investment in Wuxi since its establishment, Seagate has distinguished itself as an exemplary corporate citizen in the city. We thank Seagate for its philanthropy in helping put our students on level grounds to prepare themselves for the digital world."

"Seagate is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen in the communities in which its employees live and work," said Lau. "A key element in our corporate giving program is to provide education and learning opportunities for individuals with special challenges. We hope the lab will provide an exceptional learning environment to stimulate their creativity and develop their interest in science and technology."

Seagate's sponsorship of the Wuxi Deaf-Mute School project was announced in October 2002 when the company marked it's re-opening after an expansion project. In the past, Seagate was recognized by the Chinese government for their contribution to the community with significant projects like the opening of the Seagate Education Center for Disabled Children in Wuxi in 1996 and a donation towards the construction of a primary school in Hunan in 1999.
