This year’s camp, scheduled for April 21-27, 2008, will offer 220 children age 10-13 a hands-on learning experience in science, technology and utilization of knowledge to develop automatically-controlled robots. The camp will be held at the National Agricultural Extension and Training Center (NAETC), Kasetsart University, Kampaengsan Campus, Nakornpathom province.
“The academic and recreational activities in this camp will enable young people to learn from practical experiences, search for valuable knowledge from things around them as well as sharpen their teamwork skills,” said associate professor Yeun Poovarawan, vice president of Information at Kasetsart University. “We hope these young children will grow up to be brilliant scientists and technologists and good citizens.”
Mr. Jeffrey D. Nygaard, vice president and country manager, Seagate Technology (Thailand) Limited said that Seagate is committed to the quality of life and social development in the communities where our employees work and live. “We have been proactive in providing learning opportunities to young people through various social and education support projects, including sponsoring Crystal Brain Camp Kasetsart-Seagate for more than 10 consecutive years,” said Nygaard.
“At Seagate, our engineers and technologists have a passion for exploring innovative ideas. By supporting the camp’s activities, which is in line with Seagate’s corporate values, we hope to instill that same foundation in today’s youth, and contribute to the development of Thai society and the Kingdom of Thailand,” added Nygaard.
Several hands-on activities have been lined up for this year’s camp, including a wide variety of robotic assembly, contests among robotic teams, in which the fittest robot will survive, and computer programming and testing. These activities are intended to give participants experiences in critical problem-solving and collaborative skills that go hand-in-hand with technical skills, and to help prepare the youngsters for higher education and career success.
