Seagate Appoints New Distributor in Japan

In a move to further strengthen its presence in the Japanese market, Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX), the world's leading hard drive company, today announced the appointment of Tomen Electronics Corporation as an authorized distributor for Seagate's disc drive products.

Seagate's distribution strategy includes working closely with partners like Tomen Electronics to provide the industry's broadest set of storage solutions to a wider set of customers in more market segments in Japan. The agreement with Tomen strengthens Seagate's customer base in Japan, leveraging Seagate's technology leadership, innovation and unmatched operational excellence in order to deliver compelling industry-leading solutions to OEMs and their customers. Tomen Electronics will be distributing Seagate's full range of disc drives for Enterprise, Personal Storage and Consumer Electronics applications. The agreement does not cover the distribution of Seagate's branded solution products.

"Seagate has indeed strengthened its number one position as the top supplier of the broadest range of products and solutions in the hard disc drive industry upon the completion of its Maxtor acquisition," said Toshio Mashimo, president of Tomen Electronics. "The world's demand for storage is expected to increase significantly and we expect strong growth in new small size hard disc drive products due to an increase in mobile applications like mobile phones, digital video cameras and other potential products.

"Additionally, we see an increase in hard drive design-in work in new application fields such as digital consumer electronics, car navigation systems and many more applications for Seagate's wide range of products. We are confident that the distribution agreement with Seagate will bring us greater synergy in our long-term business strategy for growth and expansion."

"Tomen Electronics has broad experience with hard disc products and it provides its partners with a reliable source of leading products, exactly when needed and with superior pre-sale and post-sale customer service," said Tom Kobayashi, president of Nippon Seagate. "We are pleased to work closely with Tomen Electronics because it shares Seagate's commitment to providing our customers with not just the best, industry-leading technology, but also the support, training and program assistance they need to be successful."
