The show ranks as one of the largest and most important security exhibitions in Asia. China remains one of the largest producers and consumers of security devices in the world and demand is set to increase further in the run up to the Olympic Games in 2008.
Seagate will join a special technical session on video surveillance entitled "Seagate Surveillance-A Disc Drive for Every Video Surveillance Application." The invited speaker will be Mr. Chiu Nan Chu, Seagate's technical marketing manager, Sales & Marketing for North Asia.
Digital video recording for security and surveillance has grown dramatically over the past few years, leveraging hard drives primarily designed for personal computing or consumer electronics products. Recognizing the importance of providing unique storage solutions for specific applications, Seagate has produced the Seagate SV 35 Series, the first hard drive specifically engineered for use in digital video recording for security and surveillance applications. In addition, other products such as Barracuda ES can be optimized for enterprise class video surveillance, as well as its market leading 2.5" disc drives for mobile or small form factor applications.
BanSeng Teh, Seagate vice president and managing director Asia Pacific and Global Head of Consumer Electronics Sales said, "As the world's leading supplier of hard disc drives, Seagate recognizes the unique needs of the security and surveillance industry and the importance that technology plays in law enforcement and national security. Seagate is the first hard disc maker to specifically invest in the surveillance industry and the first to introduce surveillance line of products.
"Seagate's market strategy is to combine technology, service, education and operational excellence together, and target manufacturers, system integrators, installers, and end customers including security managers and associations of security installers and users," he added.
For manufacturers, system integrators and installers of surveillance digital video recorders (SDVR), the primary market segment will be for systems integrating hard drives internally into an SDVR that uses integrated hard drives, as opposed to external hard drive configurations. SDVR systems are typically used in small to medium sized applications where the amount of data captured and recorded can effectively be managed on a relatively small number of internal hard drives (two to eight drives). These systems also do not tend to have high data loss sensitivity and therefore do not typically require RAID functionality.
Seagate remains the only hard drive manufacturer dedicated to the security and surveillance market with a hard drive built to specifically withstand the surveillance digital video recorder (SDVR) environment. Seagate's SV35 Series hard drives, leveraging its perpendicular recording technology, offer increased capacity, while continuing to improve performance, power management and reliability. And as a distinct product family, the SV35 Series is poised to develop new features and functionalities independent of other market segments, increasing its capabilities in meeting the unique needs of video security and surveillance customers in the future. The SV35 Series hard drives have improved video recording performance characteristics over traditional desktop drives while also offering increased reliability features required in digital video surveillance applications.
