Over US$1.2 Billion Returned to Shareholders in Dividends and Buybacks
Seagate Technology plc (NASDAQ: STX) today reported financial results for the quarter ended 30 March, 2012. The Company reported revenue of US$4.4 billion, gross margin of 37%, net income of US$1.1 billion and diluted earnings per share of US$2.48. On a non-GAAP basis, which excludes the net impact of certain items, Seagate reported net income of US$1.2 billion and diluted earnings per share of US$2.64.
The Company generated approximately US$938 million in cash from operations, paid cash dividends of US$112 million and used approximately US$1.1 billion to repurchase 43.1 million shares of common stock and for the early retirement of debt.

The Board of Directors has approved a quarterly cash dividend of US$0.25 per share, which will be payable on 17 May 2012 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on 2 May 2012. The payment of any future quarterly dividends will be at the discretion of the Board and will be dependent upon Seagate’s financial position, results of operations, available cash, cash flow, capital requirements and other factors deemed relevant by the Board.
Seagate management will hold a public webcast to review its third fiscal quarter today at 3.00pm US Pacific Time on its Investor Relations website at www.seagate.com/investors. During today's conference call, the Company will provide an outlook for its fourth fiscal quarter of 2012 and its view of the remainder of the calendar year, including key underlying assumptions. Seagate is planning an investor and analyst meeting on 21 September 2012 to discuss the Company's longer-term strategic plan.
