How to manage partitions on the disc

The Manage Partitions function allows you to change the size of the secure and public partitions on the drive.

About creating a secure partition

Your Pocket Hard Drive can have two partitions. One can be public (for anyone to see) and one can be private (secured with a password). The default factory configuration is for the public partition to occupy 100% of the disc space, so it appears that there isn't a secure partition. To use a secure partition, you simply need to assign some space for this partition by resizing the secure partition.

Warning. Resizing the partitions erases all data on the entire drive (both partitions). If there is data on the drive that you want to keep, back up the data on another drive before resizing the partitions on your Pocket Hard Drive. Seagate is not responsible for lost data.

To change the size of the partitions:

  1. Click on the Tools button on the main menu. See Figure 1.
  2. Click on the Manage Partitions button. The Manage Partition screen will be displayed. See Figure 3.

Figure 3. Manage Partition screen

  1. Either enter the size you want the secure partition to be (in Mbytes) in the Secure Zone field, or use the slider control to adjust the size. The size of the public zone will be resized automatically to fill the remaining space on the drive.
  2. You can also assign or change the password for the secure partition by entering a password (maximum of 8 characters) in the New Password field. Enter the same password in the Confirm Password field and also enter a Password hint of your choice (40 characters maximum) in the Password Hint field.
  3. Click on the OK button to complete the changes.

How to format the drive

The Format the Drive function allows you to format the selected partition (zone).

Warning. All existing data on the selected partition will be destroyed. If the partition you want to format contains data that you want to keep, back up the data to another disc drive. Seagate is not responsible for lost data.

To format the selected partition:

  1. Click on the Tools button located on the main menu.
  2. Click on the Format This Pocket Hard Drive button.
  3. Click on the OK button if you want to proceed to format the Pocket Hard Drive. If you are not sure you want to format the drive, click on the Cancel button.
