Working for Seagate in Japan

What Seagate Does Here
It is easy to see why Tokyo is considered by many to be the center of the digital consumer world. With gadgets piled high in store fronts the evolution of consumer electronics is all around; the on-demand lifestyle is palpable. And being a major provider of hard drive products to most major Japanese manufacturers makes the company's presence here uniquely important. Address: Tennoz Parkside Bldg. 3F 2-5-8 Higashi-Shinagawa, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo 140-0002 Japan

Life Here
Tokyo, Japan’s capital city and the country’s largest boasts a population of over 12 million, roughly 10 percent of Japan’s population. Tokyo comprises two areas: the mainland and the islands. The mainland is further divided by 23 wards and a number of municipalities, each with their own elected mayors and assemblies. Seagate is located in the Tokyo Bay Area, a newly developed area constructed entirely on landfill. Here you will find Odaiba, Tokyo Disney Resort and much more. If your new job with Seagate takes you to Japan, learn about the country’s history, leadership, social issues and current news before you go. You will also want to check out the local real estate and rental housing market, too.

Weather
Tokyo enjoys a moderate and comfortable climate year round. Summer falls during the months of June-August and brings high humidity and rain, with heavier rainfall during the months of June and July. Average summer temperatures range 70-86 degrees Fahrenheit. Fall is always a welcome relief with clear blue skies and colorful fall foliage. Average temperatures range 56-78 degrees Fahrenheit. The cold and gray days of winter arrive in December and last through early March. Tokyo does get some snow showers at this time of year but it rarely piles up.

Education
The educational system in Japan is similar to Western standards with elementary schools, junior high and high schools, and four-year universities. One major difference is that entrance exams are required before admittance to most schools, even some elementary schools. The Ministry of Education is a good place to start learning more about the Japanese educational system. And for those interested in pursuing higher education in Tokyo, the University of Tokyo is the most respected state university while Waseda and Keio are two private universities held in high regard.

Have Fun
A modern and ancient city both, Tokyo willingly offers up the latest trends in culture and technology while holding strongly to its past. This is seen everywhere you go, including business and shopping districts, at temples and shrines, and while taking in beautiful gardens and parks. Home to the National Theatre, the National Museum, the NHK (Radio Symphony Orchestra) and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo plays host to some of the world’s finest cultural and scientific attractions. Travel a short distance outside the city and you will find one of Japan’s most famous hot springs resorts, Kusatsu Onsen, the Fuji Five Lake region and many more exciting discoveries.
