Management Systems and Audits/Controls

Seagate maintains a comprehensive array of management systems, Standard Operating Procedures, and audit and control functions to ensure key functional areas reflect responsible, sustainable, and appropriate business practices and standards.

Seagate's comprehensive Environment, Health, and Safety Management Systems (EHSMS) provide another level of assurance that the company is meeting governance objectives. EHSMS includes global operating procedures and a comprehensive audit function that has been in place for more than five years. Seagate has developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for most functions within the company, from quality assurance to manufacturing protocols, and has implemented SOPs specifically for EHS programs at all of its worldwide sites. The purpose of these SOPs is to ensure that effective management systems are developed and maintained at all sites in a consistent manner and to set minimum standards for site EHS programs. The SOPs provide a standard approach for the identification and management of risks at all sites, mandating minimum requirements for key EHS programs, including:

Air and Water Quality
Chemical Review and Management
Safety Critical Systems EHS Training
Emergency Response Planning Ergonomics
Fire Detection and Suppression Personal Protective Equipment
Industrial Hygiene Material Handling

Audits and Controls

Seagate has initiated a comprehensive audit program that includes site, business unit, and corporate reviews. Monthly audits are conducted at each site to assess compliance with the corporate standards, using the findings to address any gaps. Our business units conduct site audits annually. Seagate's corporate audit program employs independent, third party auditors to review site compliance with internal and external EHS requirements, including local laws and regulations.

Combined ISO 9000, 14001, and OHSAS 18001 assessments are conducted every two years with assistance from independent certification bodies. This provides an additional level of monitoring and control of our environmental, health, and safety management systems and performance.

Our sites regularly track and analyze their audit-related metrics data and report results to the senior management team for review at least quarterly. Our site managers also conduct inspections to get a first-hand look at how environmental, health, and safety is managed at the site.
