Power requirements for external desktop storage devices that are bus-powered.

Desktop storage devices that are bus-powered feature Seagate 3.5" hard drives for high capacities. The single USB-C connection allows for a simple setup but the computer must deliver 15 W to the storage device.

Power Requirement

Make sure that your computer's USB-C port delivers 15 W of power to the bus-powered desktop storage device. It is recommended that you use the original cable shipped with the storage device when connecting it to your computer.

Detection

Once connected, it may take 30 seconds or more for the drive volume to appear and be accessible. This is normal behaviour for bus-powered desktop storage devices.

Sleep and Wake

The drive will sleep based on the computer settings. Like the initial detection, it may take 30 seconds or more for the volume to appear when waking from sleep.
