There have been several motherboard revisions and updates throughout the Ethernet Disk Gigabit life cycle. Presently supported models are:
- Via Technologies system board using PATA hard disks.
- ECS system board using PATA hard disks.
- ECS system board using SATA hard disks.
For the most part, they are identical in appearance. However, there are subtle differences between each model.
1. The latest version (the ECS SATA setup) does not have a network expansion card, but rather, the network port is near the other connections (the serial and video connections.) In the location where an expansion card would be, there is a blank silver panel.
The ECS PATA and Via PATA units look very similar, but have different USB ports.
2. The Via PATA version has only two USB ports
3. Whereas the ECS PATA version has four USB ports
