Seagate® has been named as the official Object Storage Service Partner of Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN, specifically for providing the team with Seagate’s Lyve Cloud solution, the always-on mass capacity object storage platform designed to enable multicloud freedom at the metro edge. As an Official Partner, Seagate shares in cheering on Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN to the winner’s position.

Alfa Romeo has a long history within Formula One racing, in multiple forms over several decades. It was there in the race series’ early days, initially as both a vehicle constructor and a motor manufacturer. In 1950, Nino Farina won what was then called the World Drivers’ Championship, driving an Alfa Romeo Alfetta 158. In 1951, Juan Manuel Fangio won in an Alfetta 159. However, following these initial back-to-back successes, Alfa Romeo—as both constructor and engine maker—stepped away from Formula One racing.

F1 racing continued to grow in popularity and, throughout the ’60s and ’70s, Alfa Romeo’s reputation did not diminish. Although not formally built for their own team, Alfa Romeo engines were modified and used by other teams. From 1979 to 1985, a more official Alfa Romeo entrant to Formula One existed, but without comparative success to its ’50s era. At the end of the 1985 season, Alfa Romeo, as a race car constructor, went on another hiatus. The company would continue to supply engines within the race community for a few years but paused those efforts at the end of the 1988 season.

Alfa Romeo’s participation in Formula One racing has definitely changed shape since 1950, but its spirit endured, and continues to do so as new opportunities emerged in the twenty-first century. In 2018, Alfa Romeo was named as title sponsor of the Sauber Formula One racing team (part of the Sauber Group of Companies). Today, the group races as Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN, with a driver team of Valtteri Bottas, Guanyu Zhou, and Robert Kubica, and team principal engineer, Frédéric Vasseur. The current incarnation of the team’s race vehicle is the C42, reflective of the latest breakthroughs in automotive technologies.
