Toolkit displays the serial number of connected drives within Help. There may be times that Toolkit displays “Unknown” for the serial number. It is important to know that this is not an issue with the drive or with Toolkit.
There are several factors that may cause "Unknown" to be displayed:
- How the drive is connected
- Interface type, whether a dock or hub is used, etc.
- The age of the drive
- The manufacture of the drive
- Seagate or LaCie
