The Playstation 3 reports 'unsupported format' for some files after updating firmware.

The Playstation 3 reports "unsupported format" for some files after updating firmware.

The Playstation 3 can give this error with the latest version of the TwonkyVision UPnP server. Information regarding a fix can be found on the Twonky Support Forum:

Client table under "Security" in the media server settings needs to be corrected. Changes to the PS3 firmware have caused some files and devices to identify differently.

  • Install the twonky admin patch (currently only available through technical support.)
  • Log onto the Ethernet Disk Mini's web admin page using the administrator account.
  • Under the Twonky admin page, click on "Client Security" under "basic setup" in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Choose "Set Media Receivers" to enable sharing for new devices Automatically.
  • Save and Exit changes, then reboot the device.

NOTE: It may also be required to modify the PS3's media settings and add the Mac address of the EDmini.

Pre 2.40:

X-AV-Client-Info: av=5.0; cn="Sony Computer Entertainment"; mn="PLAYSTATION3"; mv="1.0";
User-Agent: UPnP/1.0 DLNADOC/1.00

Post 2.40:

X-AV-Client-Info: av=5.0; cn="Sony Computer Entertainment Inc."; mn="PLAYSTATION 3"; mv="1.0";
User-Agent: UPnP/1.0 DLNADOC/1.00

These are subtle differences, but enough for TwonkyMedia to not understand what client is connecting, and defaulting to DLNA 1.0. (thus causing a connection problem.)
